Sightseeing - Places of interest

There are numerous interesting places to visit using Saalbach as a touring base. Below are a few ideas - or pick up information leaflets at the Tourist Office

Zell am See

Beautiful old town with parts dating from the Middle Ages. A walk along the promenade by the wonderful lake is a must and there is a sightseeing boat for trips around the lake, as well as boats for hire, swimming and fishing.

Krimml Waterfalls / Narrow-Guage Railway

An hour by car via Zell am See. Austria's highest waterfalls. A great day trip, Krimml is served by a narrow-guage railway that departs hourly from Zell am See, using veteran steam locos for some departures in the summer. There is even a cycle carriage if you are feeling energetic - cycle to Zell am See, then onwards to Krimml, and let the train take the strain for the return journey.

Salzburg

90 minutes by car or Postbus, or the Holiday Shuttle. Mozart, The Sound of Music and much more have made Salzburg a major tourist attraction.

Kitzbuhl

Another wonderful old town with hundreds of years of history. The centre is enclosed in a wall and is full of very chic boutiques.

Local Museums

There is a local history museum in Saalbach located on the left hand side of the road towards Hinterglemm. Further along the road is a museum displaying mountain crystals.
